Golf is Back!

After a short break, Venture is thrilled to be bringing back the golf tournament for its 18th year.  The community support we have received for our first golf outing as Venture Community Services has been overwhelming, but we still have plenty of registration spaces available to golfers who are interested in joining us!  Enjoy 18 holes of golf at the beautiful Blissful Meadows Golf Club in Uxbridge, including golf cart, continental breakfast, boxed lunch and dinner.  Prizes for contests include $10,000 cash, a brand-new Ford Mustang, golf vacation for two, golf clubs and pro shop gift certificates.

After a great day out on the course, golfers will enjoy a barbecue dinner in the club’s brand new pavilion, complete with lawn games outside, cash bar and silent auction that will include vacations to St. Lucia, Panama and Antigua; summer family outings to Zoo New England, Disney World, and attractions in Boston and New Hampshire; as well as gift certificates to local golf courses, golf equipment and more.

We’d also like to recognize our many generous sponsors for this event: Insurance Professionals of New England, R.C. Shaw Sprinkler Company, TD Bank, OFS Optics, Patrick Morrison, Blum Shapiro, Brousseau Flooring, CK Smith, Don Salisbury, E.M. Trainor Contracting, Interior Resources, JKT Enterprises, Lightning Strikes Pest Control, Pro Plumbing & Heating, Quality Van Sales, Rotti and Son, Slim’s Sewer Service, Southbridge Lions Club, Wachusett Landscape, and WB Mason.  Thank you for supporting our mission!

We hope you’ll consider joining us on Friday, June 12 at Blissful Meadows Golf Club for a great outing to support our programs for people with disabilities.  For more information, contact Paige Billings at 774-922-1135 or pbillings@venturecs.org.  Or, register online today!

Adaptive Recreation Opportunities

With the warm weather finally here after a long, snowy winter, many of us are setting our sights on the wonderful outdoor activities that New England has to offer.  Venture encourages all program participants to live active, healthy lifestyles by participating in activities that interest them.  Outdoor activities that many of us enjoy such as biking, kayaking, and hiking require a little extra accommodation for the individuals we support.  Luckily, over the years, adaptive equipment for individuals with all types of disabilities has become more widely available.

We would like to take this opportunity to share that the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation is hosting an Accessible Recreation Fair on Saturday, May 30 at Artesani Park in Brighton from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm.  This is a great way to learn about the department’s Universal Access Program! The fair will provide information about accessible outdoor recreation available for individuals, families and friends of people with disabilities throughout Massachusetts. Activities will include a cycling fair with an assortment of accessible cycles available for use, soccer, hiking, letterboxing and kite flying.  To RSVP for this great event, call (413) 577-3840.  For more information about the Universal Access Program, click here.

Another excellent resource for adaptive recreation is a great local nonprofit called All Out Adventures, which provides free or very low cost outdoor recreation programs for people of all ages and abilities throughout Massachusetts.  For more information about their outings, click here.  Venture has also worked closely with Team Hoyt New England to support our program participants in becoming more involved in community activities.  Several individuals who live in our residential programs participate in road races regularly with Team Hoyt runners!  To learn more about Team Hoyt New England, click here.
